Today, we continued reading and discussing excerpts from Anne's actual diary. Students should bring their textbooks and study guides to class tomorrow to complete this analysis. Composition Students began drafting their arguments about Heifer International. Each student had the opportunity to take a position and create a claim based upon the researched evidence he/she gathered. We then discussed the type of information to include in our introduction and opposition sections. Students should bring all Heifer materials, including the new Outline Development Worksheet, to class tomorrow. Vocabulary Quiz #13 will be on Friday. Please use Quizlet to help you prepare! We wrapped up our discussion of the play, The Diary of Anne Frank during class today by sharing our responses to the questions on p. 637. We then began reading two excerpts from Anne's published diary on p. 712 and compared/contrasted the "voice" of the diary with the "voice" of Anne's character created in the play. We will continue this on Wednesday and read an excerpt from Miep Gies's memoir on p. 718. One of our objectives is to consider how works of literature build upon each other. Composition Students should bring all materials for the Heifer Argumentation Essay tomorrow. We discussed these today and reminded ourselves of the basic requirements and possible outline. We will use class time to draft and revise essays this week. Links and assignment are on this site under the Resources tab. IXL We previewed the pronoun skills today in CC.1 and CC.2, as well as the literary allusions exercise in UU.2. Students need to have this week's skill sets completed by 7:00 PM on Friday, April 15. Vocabulary Today, we studied the online flash cards at Quizlet.com for Unit #13. (Students need to keep visiting that site and make use of the games and activities there to help them learn the words.) We also reviewed the "Synonyms & Antonyms" and "Choosing the Right Word" exercises in the Sadlier-Oxford text. Our quiz will be on Friday, April 15. We reviewed Act II: Scenes 3-5 of The Diary of Anne Frank. In small groups, we discussed the development of Anne's character by responding to a few questions on p. 637: #2a (discuss Anne only), 2b, 7, 9a, 9b, 9c. Each student should respond in writing using the ACE strategy. These are due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, Composition Students were reminded to gather and bring to class tomorrow all materials for the Heifer argument composition. We will not be able to return to the computer lab, so students should prepare to finish drafting and revising these essays at home. IXL We reviewed the rules for creating singular and plural possessives. We previewed three of this week's IXL skills. By Friday, students are to complete BB.2, BB.3, BB.4, CC.1, CC.2, and UU.2. All students must earn a Smart Score of 85 on each to get full credit. Vocabulary Today, we began to study Unit #13 in the Sadlier-Oxford text. We covered pp. 150-154. Tomorrow, students are to turn in "Completing the Sentence" and "Synonyms & Antonyms" on pp. 153-154. Students need to identify context clues for the first exercise only. |
