1. Yesterday, we proofread and revised printed copies of the Serra Club Vocations Essay and then read them aloud with table partners to find additional ways to strengthen our writing. These were collected by the end of class. 2. We also started working on IXL GG1, GG2, and GG3. These cover verb usage, focusing on using correct forms of irregular past tense verbs and on preventing inappropriate verb tense shift. 3. Today, we will use the class period to complete these IXL. They are due today by 7:00 PM. Literature: 1. Yesterday, we read and discussed the Holocaust timeline in our literature books on pp. 532-533 and continued reading the background article at Actively Learn. 2. Today, we will finish the article and answer all questions embedded at Actively Learn. These are due by the end of class. Writing: 1. We will read and analyze one or two published Serra Vocations student essays from previous years. 2. We will then use the rest of the class to complete and submit our first drafts. Literature:

1. Yesterday, we worked on revising the graded Gerund Phrase paragraph and the graded Infinitive Phrase paragraph. Using teacher feedback, students were to make all corrections needed in their documents. 2. Today, we are finishing self-corrections on the Warriner's Verbals packets. Students will meet in groups to grade and revise each page before turning in the packet. 3. We continue to use the second half of each class to draft our Serra Club Vocations Essay on the Eucharist. Search for a book to read for our Independent Reading #4 assignment. The genre is "free choice" this time. You may read a fiction or a nonfiction book, as long as it is appropriate and approved by your parents. A book of about 200-300 pages would be good for this project. 2. I recommend that you order your book from the library or from Amazon (or other online source) today. You need to have the physical copy of your book by Monday, February 14. 3. Rather than a final presentation, we will have regular check-ins to read, discuss, and write about our books. As always, you will need to bring your independent reading book every day.
