I hope everyone was able to enjoy some sunshine this past week and to enjoy celebrating Palm Sunday yesterday. I know these are difficult times, but adversity can make us stronger and can help us remember what is truly important. We have seen this many times in the stories and books we have read together this year. I'm very proud of our 8th-graders who are staying on top of assignments and turning in excellent work. Thank you! I look forward to a time in the future when we can all get together to celebrate. Please email me right away if any of today's links do not work. I will be available to answer email questions between 12:00-2:00 today. Please know that you and your families are in my prayers. Literature Assignment for Today: We will continue to read Jeanne Wakatsuki's memoir Farewell to Manzanar for the next few weeks. We are about two-thirds of the way through the book. Before spring break, we read about her brother Woody's leaving for the Army. She shares some of his experiences in Chapter 18. To prepare for that, please read the article at Actively Learn about National "Go for Broke" Day. Coincidentally, that day, which is celebrated each year, was yesterday, April 5. The assignment requires you to watch two short video clips, read a short article, answer two multiple choice questions, and write a paragraph. This is due today, Monday, April 6, by 7:00 PM. Writing Assignment for Today: We will continue our work with Sentence-Composing Tool #8, Participial Phrases. Please link to the Google Doc for the instructions and video clips. Complete the three practice exercises and the creative writing paragraph. This assignment is due Wednesday, April 8, by 7:00 PM. I will also post a Google Forms review quiz as part of Wednesday's assignment. |
